Art songs are small and exquisite, and their lyrics are picked up from poetry by composers. Mahler is one of the representative people in the late 19th century Romantic music in Europe. Mahler's works include symphonies and vocal work, among which including vocal works, "kinder-totenlieder" and "Ruckert songs" that used Ruckert's poems as lyrics. Ruckert was a poet of late German Romantic, whose poems is not only the form of subtle, but also provides life contents to Mahler at his middle-age.This thesis will study Mahler's vocal works based on Riickert's poems. First of all, through the analysis of Mahler's and Ruckert's lives and the background that Mahler created these works, to explore why Mahler picked Ruckert's poems as lyrics. And through the analysis of composer's intention to study the art style of these songs. And then, the study focused on how to perform these two songs, which include singing tips, lyrics, harmony and melody and musical form, piano accompaniment and so on.
