Discuss On Image-building Of Roles In Puccini's Opera "Gianni Schicchi"

Although those operas of Puccini have been frequently performed in China, the opera'Gianni Schicchi' was first performed in 2008 in China. Many people know this opera just because its famous Soprano Aria'O mio babbino caro', but the significance of this opera is far beyond this.'Gianni Schicchi'is the only comedy piece which is composed by Puccini and it is praised to be one of his best masterpieces. There are large amount of researches involved in the operas of Puccini, but there are few concerned this 'Gianni Schicchi'. The lack of theory foundation also makes it not easy to rehearse this opera in our School of Art. The purpose of writing this thesis is try to provide those opera singers with some detailed and reasonable analysis about the characters and the music and also wishes to give singers some suggestions about how to express the music.The main method of writing this thesis is Literature Analysis. First step is through reading and researching the biography of Puccini and also the essays and thesis about 'Gianni Schicchi' to understand the society and time which Puccini lived in, his musical education background and the composition background of this opera. And then, according to the analyzing several editions'scores and librettos and the music itself, this thesis analyses and thus concludes the characters of figures and expressions of music. Afterwards, according to these conclusions and several audio and video editions of this opera, this thesis provides some suggestions about how to performances.
