Puccini is the most famous Italian opera composer in the late 19th century and early 20th century, the most prominent feature of whose work is the image-building of female roles. He plays a very important role in the unceasing development of opera. This paper, taking the figure of Ciociosan, the leading lady in his work Madam Butterfly as an example, described the image-building of the figure of Ciociosan and the thespian figures of the leading ladies in Puccini's work meticulously and all-sided. And this paper also provided some ways and methods to help players to grasp the Emotions change of Ciociosan in playing the role and singing the aria of this opera more accurately in some degree. So this paper was organized as following:In part one, Puccini's Social background, family background and learning experiences were introduced and discussed, which help prepare for the following research.Then,in the second part,the features of his works and his achievements of art were presented. This part begins with the development of opera, and extends to the Verismo in the late 1900s,which deeply influenced Puccini's work, and then introduced the main features of his work and his main achievement.At last, this paper, taking the aria Un bel di vedremo which Ciociosan sings in the opera, analysed the image-building of female roles in Puccini's opera. This part firstly analysed her external and internal conditions of Ciociosan,which Reflects her tragic in that time, and then, on the basis above, focused on analyzing the social influence ,the languages using while singing, melody structure of music ,slight emotions changes behind Un bel di vedremo and different versions of this aria to fully summarize the figure of Ciociosan meticulously. And all of these will help the players play more vivid and real in the opera stage to show the characters of figures in Puccini's opera.
