Being born in Trinidad, been India origin, then having settled in England and had British Nationality, Sir V.S.NaiPaul is an important Immigrant writer who have multi-identity. He always was labeled by Literary critic:the winner of Nobel Prize of Literature, British writer of India origin. But the latter ignored the irreplaceable impact of Trinidad in V.S.Naipaul's life. The paper emphatically discuss Trinidad, Naipaul's birthplace, is so important that can't be simply overlooked in his life and literature creation. Also, the quest of Naipaul's culture identity can't be completed without Trinidad. It is composed of the following three parts:Chapter one The mixture of history and the uncompleted Trinidad mainly analyses that Trinidad was the critical factor when Naipaul tried to quest his culture indentity. The long colonial history of Trinidad leaded to culture hybridization, those culture can't peacefully coexist together, so it's hard to form a solid nationalism. In Trinidad, the Indian culture gradually declined in the face of powerful Western colonial culture. The second and third descent of settlers were gradually away from the impact of this culture.A house for Mr.Biswas depicted the hard seeking of individuality and independence in this area. And we can know form Naipaul gentle criticism that the dream is impossible in Trinidad,he refused to be "himself". And that indicated Naipaul begin to achieve his ambition in Suzerain——Britain. But as "the other", he can't be completely identified with the western. He experienced the outer's loneliness all the time in western nations.Chapter two Irony writing:Mimic Man with Mask discourses Naipaul's disillusion after imitation. He accepted the Colonial culture when he was is little boy, but he had no access to transcend the regional barrier in the course of literature creation.in the end,Naipaul had to face his birthplace which he always looked down at, and chose it as his creation inspiration and resource. This behavior is the first and the most important step to recognize his culture indentity. By mean of memory and re-experience, he reproduced the true life of Trinidad:the hopeless struggle of margin people; person with multi-culture in limbo; the disorder democracy and freedom. In the back of the mimic man, Naipaul unfolded the funny and pathetic state of life in Trinidad and expressed his profound anxiety about Human subjectivity of Trinidad.Chapter three Division of the gazing:Extension of Trinidad experience tries to resolve the question that what actually Naipaul's cultural identity and values are based on. As the former colonized who had accepted the culture and value of Suzerain, he Inevitably used the "western eye"——The idea of individual freedom, justice, law and order, nationalism——to criticize the various drawback of the Third World. But Trinidad's unique culture hybridization brought Naipaul the opportunity to have multi-identity and diverse cultural perspective, he can't deny the the Third World ancestry in spite of the western value identification. He isn't a real English and can't completely use the western value to treat the huge gap between the western and the eastern. And that brought to his complicate emotion——walk on the edge, just to freely criticism according to his diverse cultural perspective but not agree with any party.
