The Study Of "Literati Image" Characterization In Zhang Henshui' Novels

Zhang Henshui (1895.5.18-1967.2.15), originally named Zhang Xinyuan. In 1914 he used"henshui"as his pen name which comes from"The stream of life with endless grief will overflow"of"Wu ye ti"by Southern Tang emperor Li Yu to contribute to a newspaper in Han Kou, and"Zhang Henshui"is gradually recognized by readers. In 50-year writing career, he left more than 100 popular fictions for the reader, which the total number of words is nearly 20 million, in addition that there is a large number of literary proses and news of prose, along with about 3000 poems, individual drama and film script. It is estimated that all of his creations are more than 30 million words. His novels, such as "Noble Family", "Warehouse karma," "River Ran Red," "Deep Night," "Modern Youth", " Favor Beauty " and so on, are filmed which were well received by the public.With the disintegration of feudalism, the Chinese traditional culture has also been impacted; there are many changes in literature. Zhang Henshui lived in the transformation of Chinese society, and the conflict between modernity and conservation was centralized incarnated in his characters which were displayed without reservation on the roles, especially the literati image. They received feudal system of education, so traditional values were deeply rooted in their minds, while they were subjected to the impact of Western ideas, so they have the transition unique features. The research results of"literati image"are rare in the former literary work, with few articles involved. Therefore, the strength and depth of this research should be enhanced. In this paper, the author does the research by making Zhang Henshui novel image as a whole and use the multiform methods including combining main points with all aspects, comparative analysis and so on, in order to reveal the identity and significance of the image group and further promote Zhang Henshui and Modern Literary Studies.This thesis is divided into four parts with the introduction and the conclusion included.The introduction mainly focuses on introducing Zhang Henshui and his works. The author define the literati image in the novels of Zhang Henshui. Finally the author illustrates the researching methods which are used in this article.Chapter 1, based on the relevant information of the ancient literati, the author summarize the development of the ancient literati, and has an overall grasp of the evolution of the images.Chapter 2 is about analyzing and classifying the images.Chapter 3, form the aspect of times and his experience, the author mines the formation and process and reason of a unique image in Zhang Henshui's novels, and digs the deep meaning hidden behind it.Chapter 4 by vertical comparing Zhang Henshui'novel, "The Scholars", "Fortress Besieged" ,the author summarizes inheritance and innovation of ncient literature about Zhang Henshui, and summarize the characters.Conclusion section summarizes the statue and the impact of the literati image of Zhang Henshui in literary history.
