John Maxwell Coetzee, a white writer, grew up in South Africa, has two kinds of cultural background. The content of his novels is broad and the style is diverse, filling with metaphors and multi-level symbol. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. The Swedish Academy considered his work as"well-crafted composition, pregnant dialogue and analytical brilliance"which is a rare flash work. J·M·Coetzee's representative masterpiece."Disgrace"made him become the only writer who has won the Booker Prize twice so far. The novel brought a higher international reputation for him, and it also made him receive intense criticism and condemnation. The novel took after-apartheid era of South Africa as background, described the South African facing the change of power and status, and the social current situation after abolition of apartheid, resulting in various mental confusion and difficulties of survival. This thesis attempts to read the text based on, combination of narrative and the theory of stylistics, narrative perspective from the analysis of the type starting characters in the third person limited perspective of narrative structure, through the techniques of narrative text from the multi-dimensional construct narrative sense, making separation of narrative voice and narrative vision, creating a unique aesthetic effect. And then focus on the novel-style narration in anti-focus-type text interpretation, seek from the"Disgrace"of this type of narrative point of view on the works of a more comprehensive explanation.Introduction: Introducing the life and works of John Maxwell Coetzee, overviewing the overall research in domestic and international of Coetzee, then proposing the research topics and innovative of the writer. Most commentators research on this work from the perspective of racist and post-colonialism, but this passage will give the novel a more comprehensive explanation from the perspective of narrative point of view type of Disgrace. The first part: Introduction to narrative point of view type of Disgrace. According to the concept of"point of view"in narratology, the writer of this essay gives a whole definition on narrative perspective. With the explicit classification of the narrative perspective,"Disgrace"can be regarded as the limited third-person points of view. The novel was written with Lurie was a key character, who observed surroundings from his eyes. In this way, not only are the tension of narrative perspective and narrative voice produced along with the unique narrative effect but also a multi-dimensional narrative meaning is constructed, and interpretation of the text space is enriched.The second part: Focusing narrative text—Anti-focusing text reading. As a focal-character, Lurie's narrative perspective is quite limited, not only in self-evaluation, but also in the relationship with the others. The dynamic character reaction can be seen from the difference and conflict between the point of view of the non-focal character and that of the focal character. In the end, the narrator hid the true voice- deep concerns and thoughts about South Africa's black and white, past and present, present and future behind a cautious silence.The third part: The artistic charm of narrative point of view of"Disgrace". The novel"Disgrace"adopts the third person limited perspective of the narrative to make the novel a great success which represents J·M·Coetzee superb narrative skill, as well as the expanding reading space. The narrative point of view type makes the focus image more clearer and makes the theme more prominent .What's more, The narrative point of view type is applied to reflect the main body awareness of writer J·M·Coetzee and the exploration of the current state of human existence to enhance the aesthetic dimension and the artistic charm of the novel.Conculsion: J·M·Coetzee——as a contemporary intellectual, manifest writer's unique rational ponder and value judgments in the novel"disgrace", express radical critique and reflection to Western rational civilization , South Africa's colonialism, the racism.
