Study On Goethe's Personality And Literary View

Johann Wolfgang Goethe(1749—1832) has been acknowledged as the last gaint since the Renaissance and is as famous as Homer, Dante and Shakespear. Goethe's greatness is self-evident.However,the study on Goethe in China has not been enough so far.It's necessary for us to study furtherly.Goethe,as a writer,has written lots of works which are known all over the world,and people who understand him or have done study on him have a common sense that Goethe's life is much greater than his works.Behind Goethe's great life is his great personality,and the creation of topping works is closely related to his literary view.Is there relationship between Goethe's personality and literary view?If there is,then what is it?There are many papers which study on Goethe's personality or his literary view separately,but papers which study specially on the relationship between them are few.This thesis, starting with Goethe's personality, will study on the relationship between Goethe's personality and literary view in order to make the relationship clear and Goethe's literary view systematic.This thesis is made up of four parts.Part one: Prolegomena.This part reviews the research situation of Goethe simply and discusses the necessity and value that why we write the thesis,then raises the thesis'major viewpoint, the purpose, the main innovation and so on.Part two: Goethe's Personality.This part is made up of three sections.The first section points out that Goethe's personality is a big-self personality and discusses it from exterior generally.The second section discusses the forming reason of Goethe's big-self personality,and deems that Goethe's world view which takes nature as center,including his philosophy that life is to develop oneself fully on the base of reality,is the root.The third section discusses the realization way of Goethe's big-self personality,including individualization, superegoization and self-develop-forever.Part three:Goethe's Literary View.There are four chapters in this part.Chapter two which connects closely with chapter one's second section,discusses the center of Goethe's literary view that literature is a great confess on the base of reality.Chapter three,four,five,which are the expansion of chapter one's third section,discuss Goethe's individualization, superegoization, self-develop-forever one by one.Every chapter is discussed from two sides.In one side,we will discuss the concrete manifests of Goethe's individualization, superegoization and self-develop-forever,which focus on Goethe's thought and real life.In the other side,we discuss the influence and appearance on Goethe's literary view by Goethe's individualization, superegoization and self-develop-forever. From the foregoing discussion, we could find out that Goethe's literary view goes hand in hand with his personality.Part four: Epilogue.In this part,we reaffirm the thesis'viewpoint:Goethe's personality and literary view join together tightly,in other words,his literary view is a component of his personality.At last,some explanations are made,including the weaknesses of the thesis.
