Transformation Of Taolincun's Residences In Chengbu Miao Autonomous County And Preservation Of The Local Culture

Hunan residences are a part of Chinese traditional residences and have their unique features because of their unique geographical characteristics. Since the ancient time, Guizhou and Xiangxi residences have been regarded as rare and bright representatives in Chinese history, while residences in south Xiangxi have been neglected because of its dispersed location and lack of unified system. But this doesn't mean residences in south Xiangxi aren't valuable for research; rather, they own research and reality value in the aspects of philosophy, ecology, folk culture, local traditions and so on. Against the background of such a time, this thesis analyses the current situation of Taolincun's residences, presents abundant observation and measurement results, pictures and manual paintings, gives researches on plane construction, spatial processing, structural feature, detail decoration, resident preservation and so on by starting from the relationship between residences and local culture and explores the deep cultural connotation behind the surface structure of the residences.This thesis follows knowledge of cultural traditions, folklore, architecture and relative domains, combines local characteristics of Chengbu in Shaoyang, makes further researches on the influences of local culture on traditional residences in Chengbu Miao Autonomous county, completes researches on traditional residences in Chengbu Miao Autonomous county, discovers and classifies local architectural cultures, develops characteristics of local architecture and emphasizes Chinese traditional culture; meanwhile, it explains the characteristics of residences in south Xiangxi and the problems caused by the transformation of the residences as well as the right methods to adopt.Chapter one:introduction. This chapter explains the origin, domain, purpose, use, method as well as the framework of the research so as to serve for the following chapters. Chapter two:the natural, cultural and historical background of Taolincun's traditional residences. Chapter three:Taolincun's current situation. Chapter four: Analysis of local culture of Taolincun's residences. This chapter focuses on the researches on residence environment development views, architectural morphology, surface shape and dimension, space morphology, structure characteristics and decoration details, the aim being comparing residences of Miao people in Xiangxi and Chengbu, explaining the characteristics of whole Chengbu's residences through the study of Taolincun's residences and analyses the culture behind them and how local culture influences local residences. Chapter five:continuous development and design research of Taolincun's traditional residences. This chapter sums up the principles of residence preservation, inheritance and development. It uses the research practice of Taolincun's residences to sum up the methods adopted for the transformation of residences.
