The Research On Modern Translation Of Li Shangyin' Poetry

From sinple notes to the fast-food-style prosaic translaption, and then to modern translation, Chinese classical poetry has undergone abrupt transformation in the modern fast food culture. No matter the simple notes or poetic prose interpretation, they are not better enough to show the poetic quality of original poem. The modern translation has a good grasp of rhythm, imagery, language and structure. Compared to the original one, it still has the poetic quality of traditional poetry. It's really significant for both the inheritance of Chinese traditional poetry and the construction of new poetry. Modern translation of ancient poetry in this thesis refers to the modern transformation of the ancient poetic form, content, and spirit. Currently, there are many translated versions of ancient poetry, but they are not qualified enough. However,the translateors always go too far to translate the poetry and take it as a free creation. It results in the loss of the essential content of classical poetry and many translation errors. There are few good translated versions. In modern world, translateors are rare to grasp the poetry or discuss the translation ways of specific poems and so on. Because of these problems, the theoretical studies of ancient poetry translations are imperfect, and the modern translation lack principles and methods. To solve these problems, we must clearly know that not all ancient poems are suitable for modern translation. According to modern translation, the selected poems should have dissemination values and space for modern translation. The dissemination values of poetry makes a typical and important reading, meanwhile, the space makes possibility and necessity of modern translation. Li Shangyin's poetry has the two qualities. It's a good research perspective to choose Li Shangyin who is so distinctive a poet to research the modern translation of poetry. It's necessary for Li Shangyin's poetry to be accepted as well as deepen the foundation of research. So, the author chooses modern translation of Li Shangyin's poetry as a thesis topic to research the specific problems of his modern translation in order to explore the general principles and methods of modern translation of ancient poetry.The thesis is divided into four chapters. In the introduction, the author tries to define the concept of modern translation of ancient poetry. In the first chapter, based on the characteristics, values and impact of Li Shangyin's poetry, the author discusses the dissemination values and what's more, further proves the necessity to study Li Shangyin's poetry.The second chapter describes possibility and necessity of modern translation of Li Shangyin's poetry and some researching results of his poetry.The third chapter analyzes the existing problems of modern translation of his poetry. Based on the poetic of original poem, the author has a comparative analysis of specific problems in modern translation of Li Shangyin's poetry, from point of view of the language and form of artistic (symbolic, lyrical), and structure and so on.In the fourth chapter, the author generalizes the principles and methods of modern translation of Li Shangyin's poetry and through the three beauties principle, gets some revelation in conclusion part.
