Both Feng Menglong's "Sanyan"and Ling Mengchu's "Erpai" are closely related to Jiangnan culture, with two-thirds of the total 200 texts the latter. Being infiltrated in the culture of Jiangnan, Feng and Ling consciously or unconsciously characterize their books with the regional culture, thereby reflecting a strong orientation to local elements selection of subject matters. Basically they construct the narrative space in these volumes according to the geological structure of Jiangnan, arrange the narrative time based on the customs and festivals there, and display the rich historical and cultural deposits of the area by creating numerous local human stories.These thesis consists of introduction, main body and conclusion. In the introduction, it first defines "Jiangnan" on the basis of the definitions provided by scholars who study on the culture of the area and the regional scope that is studied in this paper. It then discusses the close relationship between Jiangnan and "Sanyan" "Erpai".In the first chapter of the main body, physiognomy narratives of the area, including stories in waterway transportation, stories in the wind and storms, robbery and murders on the river, are presented to prove that the region offers a unique narrative scene for these volumes. In the second chapter, traditional Chinese customs and festivals in this area are narrated, which set a time scale for plots of the novels that marks strong regional colors. The third chapter involves the human geographical narrative, which is further divided into three parts, stories of Jiangnan people doing business or being officials outside their hometowns, stories of non-native merchants in the region, and local stories. Each part begins with stories of historical of celebrities, followed by those of originaring people. All of the stories demonstrate the rich cultural deposits of the Jiangnan area. The fourth chapter addresses the regional tendency of two authors in their writing. According to Tan Zhengbi's Research Materials for San Yan and Liang Pai, Feng and Ling frequently changed the central volumes of the stories putting them in the book groud of Jiangnan, or made supplements to the original descriptions that presented non-distinctive few of Jiangnan thereby making the stories of characteristic of "the region of rivers and lakes", or added some descriptions of other places in Jiangnan which were not mentioned in the origial stories, so to show the charm of the city culture of this area. All these have demonstrated the two anthers'stong pride and confidance in the region where they were brought up.In the conclusion, the thesises analyzes the influences of regional culture regard to geographical complex in modern and coute Chinese literature,and expounds the significance of the time and space narrative of Jiangnan in "Sanyan" "Erpai".
