"Dreams are common in people’s daily life, and dream narratives in literature have been around since ancient times.Scholars have paid much attention to the topic of"dream narratives",but the research is more on the inductive classification of dreams and the single function of dreams, and there is a lack of systematic research on the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai. In fact, there are 82 stories about dreams in Sanyan and Erpai, accounting for more than two fifths of the total number of stories in Sanyan and Erpai.Although there are only a few dreams, dream narratives play an important role in the novel’s expression, structure and aesthetics. Therefore, this paper focuses on the "dreams" in Sanyan and Erpai as the main object of study, and adopts the methods of literature collection, textual reading and modern narrative research to first We use the methods of literature collection, textual reading and modern narrative research to firstly take the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai as a whole, explore the literary tradition of dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai, classify the "dreams" in Sanyan and Erpai according to their own characteristics, and through the study of the "dreams" in Sanyan and Erpai,we will explore the literary tradition of dream narratives. The study of dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai in terms of narrative time and space and narrative perspective, the study of dream narratives in terms of function and characteristics, and finally the study of the socio-historical value of dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai value of the dream narratives. The paper can be divided into six parts:The introductory part introduces the current status and significance of this paper, and the research ideas and methods. In the current research situation, the research results on "dream narratives" and "dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai are systematically sorted out.In the first chapter, the literary tradition of dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai is discussed. The dream omen and the idea of fate in Zuo Zhuan, the dreams reflecting karma and symbolic meanings in Sou Shen Ji,and the dream stories with the themes of dream omen and karma in Yi Jian Zhi can all be found in Sanyan and Erpai. The dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai are more obvious in their inheritance of the Tang legendary, and their innovations are also obvious. In the second chapter, this chapter mainly classifies the "dreams" in Sanyan and Erpai according to their own characteristics, mainly into "dream omen","dream love","dream into a different world" and "dream into a different world".The five types of dreams are "Dream Omen","Dream Love","Dream in a Foreign Land","Dream Life" and "Fruition and Reincarnation".Among them, the "dream" in the "dream omen" type is a kind of omen, which usually foretells the rise and fall of the storyline or the fate of the characters, and is divided into dreams of life and death, dreams of public revelation, and dreams of foretelling fate;the "dream love" type refers to the dream of the characters in the story. The "dream of love" type refers to the characters in the story meeting and falling in love in the dream, which is divided into love dream, affair dream and dream of leaving the soul according to the content;the "dream of entering a foreign land" type is mostly seen when the characters in the story enter a foreign land different from the earth by some coincidence, such as fairyland and hell."Dream life" type is mainly a simulation of the dream and dream of transformation, the former in the dream world to achieve their ideal ambitions, the real world happens to be the opposite of the dream world, forming a sharp contrast;after the fish, dogs, etc.,experienced different from the human encounter. The "reincarnation" type mostly illustrates cause and effect with the help of dream constructions, mainly divided into dreams of revenge and dreams of past lives. In the third chapter, this chapter analyzes the dream narrative time and perspective in Sanyan and Erpai.First, the author extends and shortens the dream narrative time, sometimes fast and sometimes slow, with a strong time difference from real life, thus speeding up or slowing down the narrative.Secondly, the author uses fiction and imagination to design many strange spaces different from the real world in Sanyan and Erpai, building a colorful dream world in which the author can play at will, breaking through the limits of real space and expanding the space of the text.Again,in the dream narrative of Sanyan and Erpai, the author mainly adopts an omniscient perspective, explaining the story and inserting his own arguments at the right time. The author is also good at using the limited perspective to attract the reader’s interest in reading. At the same time, the author is good at combining the omniscient and the limited perspective in the narrative, which is flexible and versatile.Through the interweaving and constant transformation of the two perspectives, the structure of the whole dream becomes more complete and has a unique charm. In the fourth chapter, the function and characteristics of dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai are studied and analyzed. The dream narrative in Sanyan and Erpai has both expressive and structural functions.Firstly, the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai can play the role of revealing the characters’ hearts and portraying their images;they can also use dreams as metaphors for the truth, and their meanings actually point to the world outside the dreams.Secondly, the dream narrative in Sanyan and Erpai can promote the development of the plot, generate new storylines, and regulate the rhythm of the narrative through the mastery of the dream time and the construction of the dream space. However, the dream narrative in Sanyan and Erpai also has its limitations, such as over-promoting the idea of fruitfulness and afterlife, and the uniform "happy ending".At the same time, the dream narratives inherent in Sanyan and Erpai are unique in that they are rich in their own ways of dream interpretation,in their own ideas about the motives of dream narration, and in their own ideas about the connection between dreams and reality. In the fifth chapter, discusses the historical value of the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai.Compared with its predecessors, the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai also have a unique literary and aesthetic value, which is more entertaining and more imaginative. At the same time, the dream narratives in Sanyan and Erpai also carry the national cultural psychology with folklore mentality and have national cultural value. |
