Objective:1.To explore the immediate effect of picture-book reading program on children's emotional intelligence whose in fourth grade.2. To explore the characteristics of children's in-terpretation of picture books.Methods:The study consisted of two sub-researches.The first part of the study was a expe-riment-control group (pretest-posttest) experimental design,20 children in fourth-grade of a primary school were investigated. They were randomly assigned to the experimental group or the control group.The children in experimental group take the picture-book reading pro-gram,which has once a week,60 minutes each time, a total of 10 times,the control group did not take any treatments. In this study, we take the picture-books program as independent va-riables,and take the children's emotional intelligence and life adjustment as dependent varia-ble.We using "Primary Children's Emotional Intelligence Scale" and "Life Adjustment Inven-tory for Children in Primary School" as the instruments,and supplemented by the analysis of "Student feedback sheet",which were all used to discuss the impact of picture-book reading on children's emotional intelligence.The second part of the study take the 10 children of experimental group as research ob-ject. We use the voice recorder to record the discussion part of picture-book reading.We transcrip-tion the recordings into a verbatim transcript,which was use for the qualitative analysis. This part we explore the characteristics of interpretation of picture books for children in fourth grade. At the same time we also explored the characteristic of their interpretation to the theme, characters, drawings and plot of the picture books.Conclusion:(A)Picture-books reading program was effective for children in fourth grade to enhance the level of emotional intelligence.1. From the statistic data, the picture-reading have an immediate effect on children's emo-tional intelligence in experimental group, but has no significant effect on children's life adjust-ment. 2. From the view of the sub-scales of "Primary Children's Emotional Intelligence Scale", the effect is particularly noteworthy on following parts:understanding their own emotions, understanding emotions of others,responsing the emotions of others and the interpersonal proc-essing.3. From the feedback, children was satisfaction with the activity, they felt comfortable overall;children can freely express their own views and opinions, and listen to other students seriously,and integrated into the organizations; each targets were completed well;and their lan-guage expression was also increased.(B) The characteristics of children's interpretation of picture books1. The general psychological processes of Children's interpretation of picture bookChildren's interpretation of picture books include four stages:interpreting the contents, emotional integration, linking their own life, applicating strategies.Emotional Integration phase is the key to link the picture books and the Children them-selves,while the drawings, role, and plot of picture books were the elements that promote chil-dren generated the emotional integration. Children will interpretation and express their feelings from these aspects of picture-books, It also demonstrated that they are subject to the social and cultural factors.If we make children pay attention to these parts of the picture-books purposeful, it will help children self-exploration, and help adults understand children's thought either.2. The characteristics of children's interpretation of the themes(1) Children can conclude the theme of the story; (2) interpretation of the theme showing a diversity of conditions; (3) there are differences between children in understanding the themes; (4)There shows a positive meaning of the interpretation to the themes; (5) The theme which they interpretation reflect a certain ethical standards.3. The characteristics of children's interpretation of drawings(1) a special,exception, exaggerated and unusual images can cause interests of children,as well as richness, diversity, vivid images;(2) Children pay more attention to the details of the drawings and also the changes of de-tails;(3) Children pay more attention to color, and they could feel the beauty of picture;(4) Whether the whole of pictures, or the color changes, can cause psychological feeling of children;(5) Children will make inference and imagination of plot rely on the drawings. The characteristics of children's interpretation of the roles(1) Children prefer the role who has a positive quality especially;(2) sense of humor, subverted the traditional roles have a certain appeal to children;(3) Children prefer the roles which are linked with their own lives, and dart their own hope on the roles.5. The characteristics of children's interpretation of the plotChildren have strong demand for the completeness of the story,in addition to prefer the consummation part of the plot, they may choice to supplement the story,and make the plot more in-tegrity, logical and perfect; or addanending the story, so that the outcome is more perfect; to the negative part of story,the children may choice rewritten, or reverse the facts, or remove certain parts of the content, so the plot become consummation.
