Rural society is the cornerstone of traditional Chinese society, and has been an issue of concern to historians. There have been different perspectives to the role that clans playing in rural economy, and also how the clans develop their power. In this paper, we take Xiangxi Village of Songyang, Zhejiang province as a case, to analysis the demographic change and rise and fall of the local land market, and try to explain the relationship between population and land market. The methods of historical demography and social and economic history will both be used in the paper. Considering that Xiangxi is an agriculture village where Gao Clan accounted for the vast majority, it is possible to join the lineage demography and price and system of land lease together.
