John. Brahms (Johannes Brahms 1833-1897), the great German composer, he was the last classical composer with major impact in the music history of German. With Bach and Beethoven; they were called "three B" in the music history of German. His achievement was very great, in the symphony, orchestral, chamber music, concertos, piano and other aspects. Although living in Romantic period, but he did not tend to the currency and go its own way, the pursuit of serious classical style of traditional "pure music." With the own unique style, he occupied some space in western music history. His piano works, especially the Piano Variations, the unique variation affected other contemporary composers. Brahms had five Piano Variations and two variations for four hands and two pianos playing together. The known main variations are: Op.21 Nrl "Original Variations on a Theme", Op.21 Nr2 "Variations on a Hungarian song", Op.24 "Handel Variations on a Theme" and Op.35 "Variations on a Theme of Paganini." Of all, Op.24 "Handel theme song" is the most representative one. It is as important as Bach's "Gore Goldberg Variations" and Beethoven " Diabelli variations " in the history of piano art. Before that, Brahms piano works were mostly performed in the small range of salon, but Op.24 "Handel Variations on a Theme" and "Variations on a Theme of Paganini" was purely for the concert hall, so performance effects is so magnificent. "Variations on a Theme of Paganini" is a pure virtuoso work, and "Handel Variations on a Theme" is character variation, every paragraph is very exciting. The text is divided into five chapters; the first chapter is devoted to Brahms's life and major compositions. Two parts in this chapter: the first is growth period of Brahms, the second is major compositions. The second chapter is the general introduction of Brahms piano variations. Two parts: the first part is the origin, formation and evolution; the second part is general introduction. The third chapter is the analysis of five variations creation. The three parts is to introduce characteristics respectively from the form of polyphony, melody line, tone, sound and rhythm. In the fourth chapter, to analyze five variations techniques, mainly from the fixed-bass variations, fixed chord variation, ornamentation, and subject motivation ,more stress on variation of ornamentation and subject motivation ,which is more to do with Brahms's approach, especially variations subject motivation, he's superb and very clever, so that he makes his works full of rich colors. The final chapter is the Brahms's five Piano Variations creation style research. To summarize from a classical "pure music" dream, diversity skills in unity, balanced classical structure, and further rigorous approach...
