As the main body of creation of Chinese scholar-bureaucrat Paintings, Chinese feudatorial scholars made a unique hierarchy in the long process of human history. For the Chinese feudal scholars had dual identities as both political elites and intelligentsia, the research of Paintings of Chinese scholar-bureaucrat should not exclude the investigation of the group of them. In this article, the Bourdieu's method of sociological theory was applied to analysis Chinese feudatorial scholars firstly so as to reveal the nature and localize the hierarchy in feudal society of China. Then, the activities of feudal scholars with particular social habitus in the field of art, such as the awareness and development of scholar-bureaucrat paintings, acquirement and sustaining of discourse power, inverted social logic, were elaborated and elucidated. Through this article, a new visual angle in the research of Chinese scholar-bureaucrat Paintings were attempted to be unsealed.This paper comprises 5 sections. In Chapterâ… , the Bourdieu's cultural sociology research system was summarized as a whole and some well-used key words of Bourdieu's theory were also introduced. Chapterâ…¡focus on the relationship between real freedom which Bourdieu strived to distinguish from freedom limited under conditions and standpoint of Confucian orthodoxy. By analyzing scholar-bureaucrat hierarchy, Confucian orthodoxy viewpoint is shown to be the limited freedom. Consequently, the standpoint of Confucian orthodoxy against political domination promises the later scholars' breakthrough in the field of arts. From Chapterâ…¢to Chapterâ…¤, the process of scholars' practices are discoursed and discussed. Bourdieu's cultural theory cared about the historical generation factors and circumstance of cultural production, abiding by Neo-historicism logic, emphasizing on inspect the complicated relations between politics and arts. He considered that arts base on ideology whereas counteract on ideology to reclaim it simultaneously. However, Bourdieu also stressed the importance of particular logic arrangement. Meanwhile, This article pay close attention to unique logic in field of arts and the external variation of concrete social context out of this field under the direction of the Boudieu's method of cultural sociology. Chapterâ…¢is the generation of field of arts in Song Dynasty in China. Su Shi and Mi Fu made the first effort to disenchant the "magic" of imperial academy painting and enchant the "magic" of spiritual value of scholarship such as self-cultivation and nature nourishment to the field of arts under the guidance of a fogged practical consciousness. So they give the field of arts a distinctive game rule that is distinguished from secular logic arrangement.In Chapterâ…£, emphasis are placed on the second time of the disenchantment of "magic" of imperial academy painting and enchantment of the "magic" of paintings of scholar-bureaucrat in Yuan Dynasty. Zhao Mengfu and the four painting masters of the Yuan period contribute the greatest efforts to this.process. When dispelling the "magic" of imperial academy painting, they gave the field of arts the formalized "magic" of elegance and leisure, being plane and naive that in coincidence with painting attitude and appreciating inclination of scholar-bureaucrat. The setup of scholar painting scheme marked that they gained the discourse power on the social value and notion, moreover acquired unshakable position in artistic form and shape. The two-time of revolution during Song and Yuan Dynasty fulfilled the mission of enchanting and disenchanting of "magic". Chapterâ…¤elaborate the two main subjects, fading and sustaining of "magic" of scholar paintings, which were present in every period of painting history in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Under the co-influence of both the internal and external logics and contradictories, the "magic" of scholar paintings fell in the dilemma as to fade and to be sustained. Although numerous scholar painters, resented by Dong Qichang, attempted to sustain the "magic", it came out that those were futile. The "magic" of scholar-bureaucrat paintings faded away, the holiness and sublime of scholar paintings dimed out day by day. Accompanied by the disappearance of the scholar hierarchy and fading of "magic", the form of scholar paintings died out of the history finally. Altogether, when lamenting the terminating of scholar paintings, we should more be gratified with the precious value system of spirit that they left over to Chinese culture and history. The humanism that paintings of Chinese scholar-bureaucrat held high affords significant enlightenment to the maintaining independence and creativeness of present field of mass cultural arts.
