With the world's entry into information age, how to grasp the latest and effective information timely and accurately has become the focus of all the countries. In recent decades, due to the frequent communication among countries, there is an upsurge for the demand of qualified translators. Translation teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is the most important way to train translators, and it has been paid more and more attention to. However, for a long time, as translation teaching fails to notice and appreciate the trend of translation market, and the study of translation teaching falls behind, students graduated from English majors are not readily qualified for the translation market. The lack of qualified translators has been a significant limit for the development of China. Therefore, how to improve translation teaching quality for English majors has become an extremely urgent issue.Chapter 1 briefly reviews the history of translation teaching, explains its importance and then gives a detailed analysis of the current situation of translation teaching and its problems. Based on the current situation of translation market, that is, the emergence of the large amount of non-literary text, the author analyzes the new features of translating activity in the information age, and identifies the key problems in translation teaching. Chapter 2 deals with the overall change of translation teaching and problems that occurred in the process. Chapter 3 explains constructivist teaching theory in detail and explores how to use it to guide translation teaching in the information age. Chapter 4 puts forwards proposals and measures for the change of focus of translation teaching for English majors.The thesis focuses on Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. In Chapter 3, based on the constructivist learning theory and the characteristic of the information age and the reality that non-literary text translation occupies the leading position of translation market, the author advocates the following ideas: guiding the instructional concept with constructivist learning theory; focusing on non-literary material and writing courses; using multi-media technology service in translation teaching; shifting the classroom from teacher-centered to student-centered; mastering related translation technology. In the part of proposals and measures, the author points out that more attention should be paid to teacher's training and the introduction of new teaching methods and materials. Also, translation teachers and students are encouraged to combine translation theory and practice together. Only in this way, English graduates can better meet the demands of translation market.In the thesis, the author combines theory and practice in the hope that it is helpful for the shifting of focus of translation teaching for English majors.
