David Lodge(1935-) is a famous-known writer and literary critic of Contemporary English Novel. His novels and critical theories draws great attention by critics at home and abroad.This thesis emphasizes on the study of the artistic style of David Lodge's novels by means of linguistics and narratology. On the basis of predecessors' achievements, this thesis mainly probe into the artistic style of Lodge's several full-length novels.There are five parts in this article. The introduction gives a clear thought on the current situation of translation and study of Lodge's works. The first part of this thesis analyzes on the narrative style in Lodge's novels. It explores the narrative features of his novels through narrative perspective, time and structure. Part two deals with the two writing methods of intertextuality in his novels:parody and collage. Part three discusses the comedic style of Lodge's novels through the carnival humorous irony, the vulgarization of elegance and coincidence. The conclusion sums up the author's general views of the artistic style and theme of Lodge's novels.In a sense, David Lodge's creation in the art aspect of novels represents a new creating trend of the contemporary English new realistic novels. The study helps us in understanding the status of the English novels'development after World Warâ…¡where we need to pay more attention to.
