The difficulty of translating humorous language is well known by the scholars of translation studies. This paper is an attempt to introduce the skopos theory into the study of translation strategies of humorous language in Pride and Prejudice.The first chapter of this thesis introduces humorous language, including its definition, classification and the relationship between culture and humorous language; the second chapter introduces the translation studies of humorous language, limitations of the past studies and enlightenment of the skopos theory; the third one introduces the skopos theory applied in the translation of humorous language, including the survey of the skopos theory, translatability and untranslatability of the humorous language, translatability of the untranslatable under the skopos theory; the last chapter analyzes the choice of translation strategies of humorous language in Pride and Prejudice, taking Wang Keyi's and Sun Zhili's translation as examples. This part includes the introduction of Pride and Prejudice, its translation, and the characteristics of humorous language in Pride and Prejudice. In the end the paper sums up the proper choices of translation strategies of humorous language in Pride and Prejudice and gives suggestions for the future study.This paper is going to find out translation strategies appropriate for humorous language in Pride and Prejudice. Skopos theory is the popular one in translation studies in these days. It has been applied in many areas of researches on translation studies. This paper applies this theory into translating of humorous language. Taking Pride and Prejudice as a case study, this paper chooses Wang Keyi's and Sun Zhili's version to make a contrast. Through the contrast between the translating strategies of humorous language and the guide of the skopos theory, the paper finally gives suggestions for translating of humorous language. Literal translation, domestication, adding and annotation are all good ways for untranslatable humorous language and that difficult to translate.
