After capturing Constantinople, the Ottoman Empire made it as the empire's capital, and renamed it for Istanbul. In order to reconstruct the downfallen city, the Ottoman Empire emigrated people abundantly from other parts within its boarders into Istanbul. Jews who spoke Greek in the former Byzantine Empire also was emigrated into Istanbul. Some Ashley Kenna Jews also went to Istanbul for living in 1550s. A large number of Plug di refugees came to Istanbul when Jews were expelled from Span in 1492. These Jews built communities in Istanbul, governing in their own laws, and have a high level autonomy. The Ottoman Empire tolerated the Jews, almost all of the economic areas in Istanbul were opened to them. And the Jews almost controlled trades, handicraft industries, industries, even business of the manual labor in the whole country. Jews culture also was boomed and appeared a large amount of famous Jewish scholars.In the basis of collecting and trimming kinds of historical materials widely, the author attempts to clear up interior structure, organization pattern, economical and social conditions of communities of Istanbul and restore historical physiognomy of the Jewish communities of Istanbul in the15-17century.The thesis is divided into six parts. Part one is mainly about basic situations of Jewish communities in Istanbul. Part two is about the organization pattern of Jewish communities. Part three is about the marriage and family in Jewish communities. Part four is about economic activities in Jewish communities. Part five is about cultures in Jewish communities.Part six is about cultural activities between the Jews and the Turks.
