Since 1980s, Erhu music has developed into a new period after the foundation laid by LIU Tianhua from 1920s to 1930s, and the first peak of the performance and composition of erhu music from 1950s to 1960s. In the new period, national instrumental playing has been greatly enhanced as a whole.Spread of the education develops the playing team, and the development of instrument manufacturing and acoustics broadens the expression of musical instruments and betters the performance of audios. In contrast, there are not many excellent tracks except for some difficult and transplanting tracks. On the other hand, it is necessary for the composers who have learned a lot from western composition techniques, to build their own musical vocabulary and create a new and unique musical quality with national culture materials. For a composer, erhu, as a perfect national music instrument, is the most natural choice because of its rich expression and unique national character. Therefore, with the involvement of professional composers and the impact of their new creation thoughts on the field of instrumental music creation, the genre, art style, and the expression of erhu works have appeared quite different with the past.This essay will make a basic analysis to the development of Erhu music at the time frame at the eighties of 20th century, by extending to the late seventies and early nineties by looking through the creative thinking and methods of erhu works composers and the development of instrumental techniques as well as parts of the related ethnic instruments and band music.
