Musical theater, a newborn discipline in China, has few bibliographies about the character shaping of the actor. The author has the opportunity to act the starring actor of the musical Company, and hopes that this thesis can be a bibliography of China's musical performing. Company is composed by musical virtuoso Sondheim, and it is the first performance in China. The author acts the starring actor, so he has accumulated plenty of experiences. From the moment the author received the script, he has been thinking about question of the character shaping, and it is a process full of difficulties and innovations. This process also consists of a series of problems, such as the actor's performance, singing method, singing style, as well as stage designing. At last comes to the ultimate problem, that is, singing should not be the burden of performance, which embodies the performer's steadily dancing skills. Through this, we can reach a conclusion that the musical theatre is a kind of comprehensive art, which can not only approach the audiences, but in contrast can also promote the development of musical theatre in China.
