The definition of processing trade means that a country or a region imports raw and processed materials as well as semifinished products from abroad by the means of protective tariff, then process them to become finished products which are used to export. In the middle of 1980th, with the recovery of world economy, the international transfer of industrial structure appears again. In order to seize this opportunity,China put forward the stratagem Which is named "both sides outside, large-volume import and export" as an international major cycle in coastal areas. Processing trade is one of the typical outcomes of this stratagem.Since the Chinese State Council instituted 《The Tentative Measures of Developing External Operations of Processing and Assembling》 in 1978,Chinese processing trade has developed for more than 20 years and its amount has increased more than 70 times between 1981 and1999.Gradually,it has become the leading mode in Chinese international trade and play animportant role in promoting economy. In 1994, the amount of import and export account for 44.2% in the total amount of import and export and it exceeds that of general trade for the first time. But the future of processing trade is not optimistic, there are a series of contradictions and problems in the development of processing trade. The developmental mode of processing trade has become a focus in academia. The primary purpose of this thesis is to find out the sticking points existing in processing trade on the base of profound research and discuss so that we can adopt the right developmental mode and expansionary policies which tally with the situation of China and can exert the important effect in Chinese international trade and national economy adequately. The thesis is made up of four chapters.
