Permeated with the entire process of the American history, west development of the United States has exerted profound impact on the social and economic development of the nation and made a lot of contributions to bringing the United State into the mainstream of world economy. During the process, population west of the Mississippi boomed and tides of immigrants poured in the Great Plains and Far-west. Meanwhile, the American territory expanded westward, from a narrow belt along the Atlantic to the Pacific coast. This paper focuses on the development of the U.S. west from the economic point of view, describing the historic background and various conditions at the emergence of the west development, development of the three leading industries in the west and their interactive relationship with the west development. Yet the achievements of the three leading industries couldn't have been so great without the rapid development of transportation revolution and the effective guidance of the U.S. governments. Generally speaking, west development of the United States is successful in many aspects which provides a lot of constructive experience and lessons for China's development of the west.
