Investment banking, a major participant in securities business, bridges fund-raisers and investors and links all parts of securities business. Its criteria of conduct and choice of patterns are of vital importance to the steady and prosperous running of securities business. On the basis of research achievement in academic circles, this paper starts with the study of theories for investment banking and illustrates, through positive and normative research, the functions of Chinese investment banking in socialist market economy since the reform and opening-up.
