Modern Industrial And Mineral Exploration In North-west China

The industrial and mineral exploration is the core of the economic development in North-west China in modern history, Not only this shows that the North-western regions have been transformed from the traditional agricultural society to industrial society, but also leads to great changes in North-western regions. These changes are characterized by the decadence of natural economy, the debasement of traditional political structure and the refreshment of peoples' ideas. In a word, the industrial and mineral exploration is a stimulus to the North-western society, which made the region stride from an exclusive, conservative and undeveloped society to an open, progressive, advancing one. Based on the past study done by others, the thesis makes a thorough and systematic research on the problem. The paper consists of four parts. In the first part, the opinions and ideas from some main figures concerning the North-western regions in modern history; In the second part, the process of three vital stages(Yang-Wu Movement, the "New Deal" in the last period of Qing Dynasty, Anti-Japanese War) are studied, and the characteristics of each stage are generalized falling into four categories, such as: military,feudal,comprador and nation-monopoly etc; In the third part, four reasons of the low efficiency of the industrial and mineral exploration are explored, they are the dominant role natural economy, the low level of productive forces, the science and technology, lack of capital accumulation and investment, lack of systematic policies and support from the government, In a word, as Mao Tsetung said: "It's impossible to get rich, develop industry, strengthen national defence in semi-colonel and semi-feudal China." This means that without independence, rich and unity, It is impossible for China to develop industry and realize industrialization; In the fourth part, some historical enlightenments are obtained: the industrial and mineral exploration is a long and systematic project, which needs both the strong policy guarantee from the government and energetic support from the whole nation.Historically speaking, the industrial and mineral exploration of North-western regions has had a hard time. Nowadays, the great development of North-west China is starting extensively. It is believed that the great project will have a bright future.
