Both visits to CeBIT 2001 in Hanover Germany, the biggest annual IT event worldwide, and Sweden, where the most successful e-banking dominates, brought me face-to-face with the substantial changes of banking in web economy era, resulted from mighty IT development.General study of e-banking was illustrated at the beginning of this paper. E-banking in China was reviewed next. The focus was on the success of e-banking in Sweden, with Nordea as an example. Not only the practice within banks was attributed to, but also the healthy social IT environment was introduced. Our direct conclusion was that successful e-banking stems from traditional banking; valuable resources and experiences of traditional banking should neither be neglected nor abandoned; e-banking business would find strong support from IT, such as reliable way of payment and secure ID authentication solution. However, what real inspirations out of Swedish e-banking we'd like to call attention to are the significant role of a looming IT social background and the importance of structural adjustment for China's banking business. Several principle suggestions were raised as a result.
