Research On Entry Motivation, Strategies, And Impacts Of Foreign Banks In China

This dissertation provides an in-depth and elaborate analysis, exploration, and research on the entry motivation, strategies, and impacts of foreign banks in China. In the respect of study on entry motivation of foreign banks, as the first attempt in the domestic researches, this paper employs an econometric model to analyze the entry motivations of foreign banks in China since the beginning of the 1990s and reaches the conclusion that it is with the motivation of servicing local market that foreign banks enter China. As far as the research on the business and expansion strategies of foreign banks is concerned, this paper divides the development history of foreign banks in China into two periods with China's accession into WTO as a watershed and analyzes, deduces, and summarizes the business and expansion strategies of foreign banks in China comprehensively and at large with case studies. Then a prediction of next moves of business and expansion strategies of foreign banks in China is made. As for the study on the impacts of foreign banks on China economy, this paper analyzes both the positive and negative impacts of foreign banks on China economy, appraises the overall impacts of foreign banks, and put forwards relevant policy suggestions on the development of domestic banking industry.There are totally 5 chapters in this dissertation. Chapter 1 reviews and summarizes previous literatures on entry motivation, business strategies, and impacts of foreign banks in host country both at home and abroad. Chapter 2 reviews and characterizes the development history of foreign banks in China periodically and wholly. Chapter 3, as the first attempt in the domestic research domain, employs an econometric model to analyze the entry motivations of foreign banks in China and to draw conclusions. Chapter 4, which divides the development history of foreign banks in China into two periods with China's accession into WTO as a watershed, analyzes, deduces, and summarizes the development and evolution of business and expansion strategies of foreign banks in China with case studies. Then a prediction of next moves of business and expansion strategies of foreign banks is made. Chapter 5 provides a comprehensive analysis of impacts foreign banks in China on China economy and puts forward policy suggestions on development of domestic banking industry.
