The Traditional Concept of Well-off Society and the Construction of Overall Well-off SocietyWANG Bing Supervised by Professor ZHANG Xiang-hao Southeast UniversityThe concept of well-off society is a Chinese traditional concept. It now means not only a mode of society but an ideal of good society and a progressive faith. It was put forward twenty-five years ago. It originally mainly reflects the people,s pursuit of rich material life in the process of industrialization. Facing the new century, the construction of an overall well-off society is a great strategic choice in adapting to the development of globalization. The concept of overall well-off society is an embodiment of the demand for political, economic and cultural in a society of knowledge economy. The goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way embodies an overall development plan including the following new tasks: to develop economy and reform, to improve spiritual civilization, to perfect socialist democracy and socialist politics, and to maintain a sustainable development. This is a new annotation on Marxist theory of social development applied in China. The new annotation of the concept is discussed in five chapter in this paper.
