Nowadays, the development of logistics has played an important role in the development of social economy. The modern logistics enterprises compete with rivals, not only depending on their own capacity, but also by the means of promoting the ally with all jobbers, manufacturers and providers in the supply chain. Their success is based on the efficient cooperation with all logistics nodes in the supply chain. Information technology (i.e. IT) has been recognized as a significant tool that could be used to manage the supply chain effectively and applied comprehensively. By contrast to IT, GIS technology is a rising research task in the application of logistics. This paper is trying to lead the technology and concept of GIS to the major of logistics, in order to constitute a bran-new logistics GIS system. This system uses GIS as application frame and does the second research on the basis of MapX. The new system makes use of electronic map as management surface to put the data and space location together. As a result, it is easy to manipulate the new system and understand the graphic output from the new system. To begin with, this paper introduces the fundamental thesis of modern logistics and GIS. Next, it analyzes the logistics GIS system and investigates the total construction, database and designing problems of electronic map in the new system. Furthermore, it studies the logistics vehicle route's planning problem based on GIS. Finally, the final chapters of this paper make the elementary development and designing of the new system, on the purpose of planning the route of logistics distribution vehicles. From the idea of systematic designing, this dissertation brings forward the method of designing the whole logistics GIS system, concludes the features of the new system and illuminates the problems which should be paid attention to when designing. In the exploitation of example, this paper contrives the configuration and functions of the system and studies the programming to realize it.
