Directed by social role theory and feminism thought, and grounded on the non-agriculturalization process, the research is to make an exploration of Chinese rural women's family roles. The article emphasizes particularly on the power and obligation of family roles. And based on the interview to 26 rural women living in Yu Jiaying village Dan Jiangkou city in HuBei province, the article exhaustively describes the characteristics of the rural women's cognition and behavior concerned. In succession, the author illuminates the role change process of the rural women and their own dynamic effect on it, and probes into the profound reasons of the dissimilarity between the role cognition and behavior. Furthermore, the author coins the notion——"nuclear family orientation" to generalize the women's adaptable behavior strategy. The primary content is elucidated in the six chapters. In the first part of the article , the author summarizes the aims of research and the results of relevant studies. In addition, the chapter clarifies the key concepts and theory, and explains the train, purpose and meaning of the research as a whole. The purpose of the second chapter is to provide the general background of the research. Accordingly, it presents the survey method, the general situation of the non-agriculturalization process in Yu village, and the basic information of the objects——26 rural women. In the third chapter, emphasizing particularly on the respects of social role power and obligation, the author describes and analyzes the rural women's cognition to the roles as wives and daughters-in-law.The forth chapter explicates the behavior characteristics of Yu village women acting as wives and daughters-in-law, and their behavior strategies being adopted to accommodate themselves to the changed circumstance.Referred to the tradition and modern characteristics of the family role's power and obligation division, the fifth chapter makes a typological analysis of the rural women's role cognition and behavior, and probes deeply into the influential factors. There are primary conclusions and profound discussion in the sixth chapter. Simultaneously influenced by the modern factors and tradition ones, the Yu village women obviously present the transitional characteristics on their family role cognition and behavior: Focusing on their families, the rural women especially pay attention to their obligation, and almost ignore their power. Acting as wives, they participate in decision-making process of family important affairs, and take on double responsibility: doing housework and earning money. Thanks to the complete change of the power relationship with their mothers-in-law, the rural women alleviate the heavy support burden. The dissimilarity between the role cognition and behavior is so obvious that it takes on two prominent types: being-restricted type and antinomy-bewilderment type. Finally, based on the above analysis, the article discusses the Yu village women's thinking and action logic——"nuclear family orientation", reflects the research flaw , and puts forward several topics for following researches.
