After China joining WTO at the end of the year of 2001, the banking of China began to open its gate with the commitments that Chinese government made. According to the contents of the commitments, the banking of China will open business license delivery, foreign exchange business, RMB business, and finance consultant step by step. While standing on the middle point in the five-year transition period, it is necessary to find out the situation that the banking of China has fulfilled the commitment of joining WTO in the pre transition period and the approaches with which Chinese banks will deal with the competition from foreign banks in the post transition period. The purpose of this thesis is to systemize the operation situation of Chinese banks based on a series of problems, and to raise the methods of strengthening the advantages of Chinese banks and decreasing the disadvantages of them in the competition with foreign banks.In the first part, through the retrospection of the formation of traditional finance depth theory and evolution of finance depth theory system, the thesis summarizes the rules of finance liberalization, which also are applied to the analyses of the open of the banking of China in the process of finance depth in China as the theoretical support to the effect that the commitments of joining WTO makes on the banking of China.In the second part, the thesis focuses on the retrospection and analyses of the commitments that Chinese banks has made, and describes, by the statistical datum and methods, the situation of operation and development of foreign banks in China in the pre transition period and the situation of the competition of the banking of China. Based on all the analyses above, the conclusion is drawn that foreign banks and other financial institutions have not impacted on Chinese banks much in this period.In the third part, the thesis analyzes the direction that foreign banks would choose to develop themselves in the post transition period and the impact that they would make on Chinese banks, combining the commitments that Chinese government made to open the banking of China in the post transition period and fields that foreign banks have been allowed to enter into in the pre transition period but they haven't.In the last part, the thesis arrives at the conclusion that the effect of the open of the banking of China is complicated like economy globalization, and raises the methods and measures that Chinese banks could adapt to cope with the competition from foreign banks in the post transition period, such as moderate controlling the business and development of foreign banks in China, reforming the organization structure of Chinese banks, moderate developing the complex business, and adjusting bank business oriented by customers.
