With the popularizing of "On Crimes and Punishment", the rising of the concept of human rights and the fact that more and more countries had abolished death penalty in their countries, abolishing the death penalty has becoming a global trend. Before this trend, China's response is relatively slow. The number of the declaration and the execution of the death penalty remains high, which makes our country faces great pressure in international contacts on the aspect of human rights and justice. Many domestic scholars hold the view of restricting but reserving the death penalty and the number of who think the death penalty should be abolished in our country is small. Among the reasons of the restricting- but- reserving view, the public opinion should not be overlooked. As for the public opinion, we should no take it lightly, nor cater to it unconditional, instead we should guide it initiatively, but before this , we should firstly analyze why public support and favor the death penalty. In my opinion, the essence of the public opinion is an emotion, not a rational thinking. People's preference for the death penalty relies on the feeling of the risks that damage their inner sense of security and social community and the fancy that after the abolition of the death penalty, the situation would be unsafe. So the work of guiding public opinion should start from reducing this sense of insecurity, the strong will of the leaders through well using of media, use the way of assertions, repeating, visualization display and so on, the case of the offender from the situation, to reduce the public sense of insecurity and bring up the culture of tolerance that people would appreciate others live, not by theory and preaching to affect the public attitude toward the death penalty.Of course, the change of public opinion can not be completed in a short time, but once people accept the idea of abolishing the death penalty is reasonable, this concept will be permanently occupy their minds.
