A Study On The Black Sea Power Issues In West Russia Security Problems

Since the breakup of Soviet Union,the international community entered a new era, which also gave birth to a new Russia. The former Soviet republics in Eastern Europe closed to the West one after another, thus Russia lost its vast strategic buffer zone compared with the Soviet time. It made that the national security border of west Russia nearly overlapped with Russian territorial border, so, Russia's national security is facing new environment and new challenges.Because of the naturally distrust of Russia, the US-led NATO continued to accelerate the eastward expansion, which made the former soviet republics in Eastern Europe and South-East Europe gradually joined the Atlantic Collective Security System, and squeezing Russia's strategic space politically and militarily. At the same time, EU, as western European countries'political and economic integration group, also expanded eastward from its own political and economic development strategies, and made the former Soviet republics involved its economic system and development space. The eastward expansion of NATO and EU complemented each other, squeezing out Russia's border and Russia's strategic space constantly. This made Russia felt unprecedented security threat, waking up from the West's false honeymoon. The West, has become the main strategic direction of Russia's national securityThe Black Sea, in the southwestern Russia, is located in the junction of Europe, Asia and Africa three continents, and the north part are Ukraine and Russia, south part is Turkey, the west part is the Balkans, going to the Mediterranean, holding back the Caucasus from the east. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, there appears many new sovereign states in the Black Sea, as a result, the Black Sea coastal waters and sea power are divided by the riparian states. The eastward expansion of NATO and EU and the former soviet republics in Black Sea region closed to the West makes the Black Sea become the key for Russia to maintain its west security, while, the control of Black Sea right is an important guarantee for its western national security.The Russia Black Sea fleet helps Russia to safeguard the black sea power, as the core force to maintain its western national security. However, the problem of Russia and Ukraine black sea fleet is still troubling and threatening Russia. Therefore, what ways and means Russia chooses to deal with Ukraine and then to solve the problem at the root, becomes the core and focus for Russia to control the black sea power and maintain its western national security.
