As the industrial mass-production and division of labor in society is more and more specific, the disadvantageous situation of the consumer is increasingly apparent. As a necessary result of development of economic activities, consumer groups are featured with the disadvantaged features since its existence. As far as its root cause is concerned, it originates from the extreme information asymmetry on commodity or service resulting from economic activities between consumers and operators.In modern market, various needs of consumers all depends on markets and are established on their ideas about the market. However, on the one hand, the consumers' demand for information is increasingly more and more. One the other hand, as function and structure of products have been more complicated, the consumers find it hard to judge commodity value, use them properly and accept services based on their own daily experience of life and common sense accumulated. While the operators, who are opposite to consumers, are familiar with features of the goods and have a good knowledge of service quotation. Through researching consumer psychology, they make pertinent marketing strategy, evade unfavorable information as far as possible but disseminating to the audience those favorable. Under such an asymmetric situation, consumers are hard to avoid becoming the puppet due to offensive of information propaganda of the operators. Induced by information delivered by operators, they make expected consumption behavior of the operators. Because the consumers are short of information, their interests are situated at fragile nature from the beginning. Thus, it is quite difficult to protect the consumers' interests. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to formulate relevant protective measures and redress systems and to offer corresponding compensation to the consumers' inferior status on right to know in law. In this paper, the writer makes an approach to generation, connotation, significance of protection, method of realization, and ways of redress of the right to know. It is hoped that the paper will be a reference to the improvement of future system.There are four parts in this thesis.Part one is an overview of right to know for consumers. This paper analyzes the generation background and connotation of right to know, from its upper concept and makes further discussion on concept, features, significance of right to know of consumers. Lastly yet importantly, the thesis discusses significance of protecting right to know of consumers from both sides of protecting consumer interest and market order of maintenance.In part two, it makes an introduction to legal report and implication of right to know of consumer overseas. As the famous Chinese saying goes, by other's faults, wise men correct their own. In this part, the paper introduces and analyzes advantages and disadvantages of the system of right to know of consumers overseas, and it also points out what's valuable for China to use for reference and learn something from them.Aiming at the current situation of legislation on protection of right to know of consumers in China, it analyzes the existing problems in protection of right to know of consumers in China in detail. It also finds out the causes resulting in infringement right in two levels of essential attributes and lagging forms.In part four, it responses to existing problems in protecting right to know of consumers in China that is aforementioned in the former part. It also offers legal contemplation in perfecting related systems and regulations in our country. In addition, it discusses and analyzes the protection of right to know of consumers in infringement right on consumption; at present, this kind of problems emerge endlessly in the field of B2C.
