An Analysis Of The Trade Policies Of AFTA

The regional economic integration is one of the most important tendency of the development of the world economy nowadays. Compared with the other regional economic cooperative associations of various developing countries, AFTA(ASEAN Free Trade Area) is a more vigorous one. The success in its economic development has not only made its members benefit from it, but also exerted a great influence in promoting the global regional economic cooperation and provided a good reference to China in participating in the economic globalization and regional economy cooperation.The integration advancement of ASEAN mainly displays in the field of economics and trade . On the basis of the major theories of regional economic integration and with the main line of the development condition of trade policy system of AFTA, this paper has investigated and analyzed the course of the regional economic integration , the policy effect, the typical nations' trade policy as well as the develop tendency of AFTA and so on. In addition, it has reviewed briefly and looked ahead to the development of the economic relationship between AFTA and our country.The paper shows, as a Free Trade Area mainly composed of developing countries, the development of AFTA is not as smooth as that of the developed countries , it has met with more difficulty both inside and outside, especially during the period of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and the global economic recession in 2001.However, AFTA has set up a relatively effective mode of regional economic integration on the basis of the common benefit among the members, and furthermore, each member could, in the range of the frame of AFTA, seek and adopt the practical trade economic policy according to their respective specific conditions, so that both of the " small collective benefit" of various members and the " great collective benefit " of AFTA could be considerated in the possible wide range.
