Analysis Of British Labour Party's "the Third Way"

"The third way", which is not a new word and has different meanings in different periods, is found in statesmen's manifestoes. "The third way"described in this dissertation is a new political trend, which is the mark of recovery of social democracy. It has tried to create a kind of political operative model, being aimed at solving a series of problems resulted from era changes. In this thesis, "the third way"of British Labour Party, a typical case of social democracy, is analyzed, which tells the characters and existed problems of it through the analysis to the background, theory and policy of its. In the first part, this dissertation analyzes the background of "the third way"adopting statistical and historical analytic methods. The new changes in politics, economy and social structure in Britain are analyzed fore-and-aft 1980s. These new changes and the needs of British Labour Party's survival and development become the direct reasons why "the third way"is formed. Furthermore, the factors of its outside environments are the end of the cold war, scientific and technological revolution and the re-growing of European left force. In the second and third part, this dissertation analyzes the theory and practice of "the third way"adopting the methods of tracing review and theory related with practice. On the basis of predecessors'achievements, new value, new politics, new economy and new global order are analyzed more systematically, which gives prominence to "the third way"innovation and containment. Meanwhile, analyzing the policies and its implementing results of Labour Party government, it shows political, economic social and diplomatic policies. In the forth part, through comparative method, it comments the theory and practice of "the third way"systematically. Comparing "new"Labour Party with "old"Labour Party and Conservative Party, "the third way"is considered as a kind of pragmatism, elections and realism theory and political pattern. Whether it successes or not is decided by if it can overcome its drawbacks: without systematic theory, the trends of factionalism inside the party, the pressure faced by elections and so on.
