On Causes And Preventive Measures Of Crimes Of Contemporary College Students

The state of ideology and behavior of contemporary college students directly affects the future and fate of a country. In recent years, crimes by college students occur frequently and the rate of crime by college students is on increase, which increasingly becomes a serious problem that disturbs social order and school order. Therefore, the author visited the law enforcement authorities in Changchun and Jilin Region (Jichang for short) and investigated situations of crimes of college students in ten years; ask 1,000 college students in these two regions to fill in questionnaires. Through investigation and study, it is rather necessary to study crimes of college students. I. Significance of studying crimes of college students At present, it is significant to study crimes of college students. 1. It is helpful for improving higher education system. In higher education system in our country, it is deficient in systematic study in behavior of college students'crimes and the discussion in laws of crimes of college students is inadequate. Now, higher education is shifting to open style, so it is more necessary to comprehensively and systematically study crimes of college students to improve higher education system. 2. It is helpful for study of criminology. Study of crimes of college students is a branch of criminology, it has theoretical significance to study of criminology and it will play an important role in enriching and developing study of criminology. 3. It is helpful for preventing and reducing crimes of college students. Through systematic study, first, we can grasp laws of crimes of college students and effectively prevent crimes; second, we can take typical cases of crimes of college students as negative example to educate other students; third, we can make legal education more pertinent to improve students'legal consciousness. II. Features of crimes of contemporary college students At present, features of crimes of college students are as follows: 1. The proportion of crimes of college students to social criminal acts increases. The number of cases of crimes of college students in Jilin and Changchun region increases from 50 in 1995 to 100 a year now. 2. Crimes of college students are extensive. At present, types of crimes of college students almost include all types of crimes and the scope of subject is expanding. 3. Crimes of college students are committed by a gang. In 2004, gang crimes account for 31% in crimes of college students in Jilin and Changchun region. This percent is unprecedented. 4. Crimes of college students are concentrated in certain area. Places of crimes of college students are concentrated on campus. 5. Crimes of college students are invisible, mainly demonstrated in two patterns: cheating and plotting. 6. Crimes of college students occur suddenly. Before 50% of college students commit crime, they do not aim at specific target. They commit crimes only when strongly stimulated by certain event. 7. The motive of crimes of college students is single. Most college students have only one motive and pursue only one purpose before committing crimes. 8. Crimes of college students are intellectual. When college students commit crimes, they always make use of their intellectual advantage. This has become a trend. 9. The proportion of crimes concerning property by college students increases. The proportion is about 60%. 10. Crimes of college students are cruel. In recent years, the cases that cause death of other people in crimes of college students increase. III. Analysis of causes of crimes by college students Causes of crimes by college students come from both factors of subject of crime and those not related to subject of crime. These two kinds of factors affect and influence each other and lead to crimes by college students. 1. Personal factors of crimes by college student, first, most college students who commit crimes know little about laws, cannot use laws to restrict their behavior and their legal consciousness is poor. Second, somecollege students are affected by bad social order, so their outlook on life and values are deviant. Third, under various pressures from employment, some college students generate unhealthy psychology, if not guided timely, they may have mental illness. 2. There are deficiencies in school education. At present, teaching concepts of higher education are lagged behind. There are deficiencies in ideological and political education, loopholes in management and lack of humanist spirit. All these factors will lead to degeneration of ideology and morals or even committing crimes of college students. 3. Faults in family education, first, over-spoil and unprincipled indulge develop children's superiority complex. Once they are not gratified, they tend to commit crimes without considering consequences. Second, if family relation is tense and parents are indifferent and ruthless, children's soul may become twisted. Third, unhealthy family cultural atmosphere stains pure hearts of children and leads to shadow in children's psychology. 4. Negative effects of social environment, in recent years, some unhealthy social order, cultural environment and non-mainstream culture do great harm to physical and intellectual integrity of college students and lead them to committing crimes. IV. Preventive measure of crimes of college students In order to prevent college students from committing crimes, it is necessary to construct trinity solid educational network that is dominated by school education and supplemented by social education on basis of family education so that better effects will be achieved. 1. Consolidate legal education. Consolidate teaching of basic courses on laws, carry out various practical activities concerning laws, cultivate and improve legal conception and consciousness of college students so that they can consciously defend outside bad influences. 2. Strengthen campus management. Strengthen college management, enhance campus cultural construction, improve quality of managers, makes system perfect, mechanism healthful, management pertinent, create healthy campus cultural atmosphere, stimulate fighting will of college students and improve their personality and morals.3. Provide consultation to improve students'state of mind. Establish consultation organs with specialized and part-time teachers and set up psychological archives so that college students can grasp basic psychological knowledge. For students who have the symptom of committing crimes, teachers shall timely guide them with psychological precaution. 4. Consolidate education on outlook on life and values. Based on the concept of cultivating talents for socialist modernization construction, we shall adopt effective measures to stimulate college students'interest of creating beautiful life and guide them to establish right outlook on life and values. 5. Cultivate healthy family educational atmosphere. After children enter college, parents shall still insist on right guidance and strict requirements and timely contact with teachers. 6. Purify social environment. Rectify social cultural environment, strengthen community management and forbid to set up commercial entertainment places near school; meantime, the country shall provide support by policies and enact Campus Safety Law as soon as possible. 7. Implement campus police system. Learn from successful experience of community police, set up campus police in unit of student community to carry out functions of security guard, legal consultation, timely solving emergent situations etc. so that they can educate, manage, help and safeguard college students. Through a lot of investigation and study and combined with accurate data analysis, this paper objectively analyzes and summarizes features of crimes of contemporary college students, probes into causes and proposes practicable preventive measures and new ideas of "implement campus police system"in order to provide helpful reference for better preventing college students from committing crimes.
