In the context of the globalization of international society, the theory and practice of national sovereignty face lots of challenges. The theory of the decline or termination of sovereignty has topped in the theoretical circle. However, nations are still the foremost actors in the international society, and the important factor that cannot be avoided. Therefore, theoretically and practically the study of sovereignty theory is still of vital importance. This dissertation focuses on the evolution of sovereignty after the Cold War, and on the impact it has brought to international society and nations. That is to say, with the study of the origin and evolution process of this theory, and the review of social context, this dissertation will display the main viewpoints of the new development and the main bases of argument, and then reveal the logical and illogical points in this process.Five parts constitute this dissertation: chapter one centers on the origin and evolution of sovereignty theory, and briefly summarizes the two trends of denial thought of this theory as well; The second chapter analyzes sovereignty decline and interdependent sovereignty theory, and finds out the five grounds of argument; Chapter three dissertates the theory of obsolete sovereignty, and then follows the analysis of three trends of thought in it: sovereignty termination theory, world nations and governments theory and new imperialism theory. Chapter four interprets the claims of the sovereignty reinforcement theory in economic, political and cultural fields. The last chapter reviews and organizes the rise, division and crucial components of world administering theory.Sovereignty is not pre-existing. Instead, it is the outcome of social development. The diversity of the thoughts that derive from sovereignty is caused by the many possibilities of the world development and the complexity of the existing reality. The unbalanced development history of nations results in the historical gap of status between the developing countries and the developed ones, which further impacts the distinct goals that different nations pursue. Consequently, the development and argument of sovereignty theory will inevitably continue.
