Electronic data interchange (EDI) arises from the combination of the increase of international economy & trade and development of science & technology. It will play an important role in the fierce competition of global trade in the future to come. But at the meantime, it challenges in many aspects of the traditional legal systems based on paper international trade. So how to adjust the traditional legal system and make new legal theories have become the urgent issues.The paper consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 includes an introduction to the definition, characteristics, practices and the advantages of EDI(contract). Chapter 2 makes detailed introduction to the representative electronic contract laws of international organizations and countries. Chapter 3 makes a detailed research in some substantive legal problems arising from the use of EDI in international trade. Based on the research of the above three chapters, chapter 4 put forward some suggestions for the betterment of Chinese law in order to push the use of EDI in international trade.
