India is the largest nation in Indian Ocean region, and Indian Ocean is the key junction which connects the East Asia and the Middle East. Being a major nation in the Indian Ocean region, India has been seeking a great power ocean security strategy which ensures Indian national security and economic interests. The ocean security strategy is the important step to achieve India's great power strategic targets which are based on South Asia, to face the Indian Ocean and to contend for a global power.The ocean security strategy has evolved since the founding of India. It was critically changed in the 1970's and 1980's and finally shapes up in 21st century. After the Cold War, India has attached great importance to its ocean strategy interests, especially the security on the oil passageways of the Indian Ocean. With the development of Indian comprehensive national strength, India has attached more and more importance to its ocean security strategy. During the same period, Indian naval force has developed rapidly and ranked the sixth in the world.The Indian ocean strategy and the continuously developing naval power produce important impacts on the global strategy of the United States.
