Historical materialism is one of Marx's great discoveries. And it has had initial significance in the history of idea. Now it is regarded to be a social theory of history which can not be surpassed in modern times. It puts forward a systematic explanatory framework for history, with human beings'development as the cornerstone of its value orientation.The principle of the unification of scientific cognition and value orientation is the essential guideline that leads the Communist Party of China to seek healthy, sustainable development of society. The CPC absorbs the worldwide theory of development and puts forward the scientific conception of development.'With man as the end'is the ultimate end and cornerstone of the scientific conception of development. This coincides with Marx and Engels's thought of human's all-round development, which pursues human's value and status in social development. The scientific conception of development not only inherits the kernel of historical materialism, but also makes some innovations.There are three parts as follows:Part one: Historical materialism is the theoretical basis of the scientific conception of development. It points out that the unification of scientific cognition and value orientation is historical materialism's fundamental principle; The meaning and the cornerstone of the scientific conception of development.Part two: The scientific conception of development is the new version of the development of historical materialism in China. It points out that the scientific conception of development is the latest harvest of the social theory of development with Chinese characteristics; and it is the essential demand of Marxist historical theory of value.
