This article discusses the legal issues concerning the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage in China. The current situation of legal protection of the world heritage in our country is first analyzed,then the advanced experiences of foreign countries is introduced. According to the existing problems of the legal protection, the legal countermeasures are put forward with regard to the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage. There are four parts in the article.Part One The meaning of the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.World cultural and natural heritage refer to the cultural relics, sites, buildings, natural landscapes or other combinations, which are organized by The World Heritage Committee. They are applied by the governments of the States Parties and included in The World Heritage Lists according to the relevant regulations of The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. These are regarded as the common wealth of the human kind. Up to now, there are 812 world sites in the world, which are located in 137 different countries. The world cultural and natural heritage consists of cultural heritage, natural heritage, cultural and natural heritage and cultural landscape. They have the characteristics of globalization and rarity. Moreover, they have values in the fields of scientific research, education, history, art and tourism. China is one of the member countries of The Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Thirty-one places have been included in The World Heritage Lists.
