As the reform and opening to the outside world, China has on the one hand made a lot of progress in economic development, while on the other hand the architectural cultural heritage has been seriously destroyed. The protection of architectural cultural heritage is now confronted with great challenges especially in urbanization. However, the existing legal system on the protection of architectural cultural heritage is not complete, and the theoretical research requires further study, so a comprehensive analysis and study on the legal protection of architectural cultural heritage demonstrates great significance.Human being's living environment includes natural environment and artificial environment. As one of the composing elements of environment, the architectural cultural heritage belongs to the artificial area. But the existing Environmental Law doesn't give an explicit definition of the artificial environment.This essay begins with discussing why there are difficulties in defining the artificial environment, and tries to discuss the possibility of it, using the viewpoint of adjusting theory and ecology. It can also be clearly stated in this essay that only when the artificial environment be endowed with ecological status can people carry out effective legal protection on it. In the second place, this essay analyzes the value properties including ecological values of architectural cultural heritage, to investigate it in the artificial area and reveal its essence as ecological environment. In the end, back to the issue of legal protection, the essay introduces the experience of other countries, discusses the inspiration that follows, comments the existing legal protection system of our country, and offers thinkings on the further completion of it.
