In ancient times, Laos and Thailand allied or opposed from time to time on the basis of the living security of their own countries. This chaper witnesses the cruel and fierce international relationship driven by national interest.Chaper III discusses the relationship between Laos and Thailand since the end of World War II to the founding of Lao People's Democratic Republic. Lao People's Revolutionary Party had just taken power and had to consolidate its power and rule position. Therefore, Lao government stuck to political interest. Supported by the Soviet Union, Vietnanese heogemony seriously threatened Thai national interest. As a result, security interest became the one Thailand wanted to protect in this period. With different national interest, the two countries were sensitive and maintained sharp vigilance and distrust, which caused great tension and conflicts.Chaper V deals with Lao-Thai relationship in the post-cold war period. In this period, the Soviet Union collapsed, cold war ended, and the world situation tended to be steady and ease-up, economic factor became gradually important in international politics. With the development of world situation, traditional economic interest still held in high regard. However, in this period, nontraditional security factors affected every country with special severity. Thus, comprehensive security outlook focusing on economy was accepted by the world. Comprehensive security outlook was marked by the protection of comprehensive interest. Laosand Thailand accepted the opinion and paid much attention on it. As aresult, the two countries strenthened cooperation, kept inregular contact, and solved problems through dialogue. This paper also makes predictions of Lao-Thai relationship, thinks the two countries will continuously attach importance to comprehensive security outlook, strenthen dialogue and cooperation to realize separate security and development.
