A Sociological Research On The Charity Consciousness Of Citizens

The problem of philanthropy's construction is a special problem because Chinese society is undergoing a transition period. Our country puts it at the top of the agenda of the socialist development with the purpose of achieving the goal of the construction of harmonious society through philanthropy's development. But the most important issue of development of philanthropy is the cultivation of awareness of charity. Therefore, it is very important to study the impact factors of charitable awareness.With the aid of predecessor's research results, from viewpoint religious, ethics and historical cultural science's, investigating the factors such as the community environment, public opinions environment as well as Social system environment, applying sociology empirical research principle, combining the quantitative analysis and the qualitative analysis, this research compares the cognition of charitable consciousness, the sense of charitable participation and the sense of responsibility of charitable consciousness based on a detailed analysis, in the hope of further developing the depth and the breadth of the charitable consciousness research.As a result of variables, "charitable consciousness" is divided into the cognition of charitable consciousness, the sense of charitable participation and the sense of responsibility of charitable consciousness, and they are analyzed in detail, four concrete research hypothesis are proposed: the first one is at present our country citizens' the overall cognition of charity is very weak; the second one is community (culture) environment can affect citizen's charitable consciousness condition; the third one is public opinion environment can affect citizen's charitable consciousness condition; the fourth one is system environment can affect citizen's charitable consciousness condition.Empirical Study results indicates that community (culture) environment, public opinion environment as well as system environment are the factors influencing citizen's charitable consciousness. The relation of family member's relationship intimacy degree and the sense of charitable participation is positive correlation. The higher degree of Community tradition is, the clearer the sense of responsibility of charitable consciousness is. The more media propagandizes charity, then the higher citizen's the cognition of charitable consciousness is. The higher the degree of public trust to social environment, then the stronger citizen's charitable participation motive is. The relation between educational system's utilitarian trend and citizen's charitable cognition is negative correlation. The more preferential benefit to the charitable activity is offered, then the strength of citizen's participating in charitable activity is stronger. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen and better the construction of community (culture) environment, public opinion environment and system environment in order to promote the formation and development of charitable consciousness.
