SCOPIC Clause is the practical improvement on the special compensation clause of International Convention on Salvage 1989, and plays an important role in international salvage at sea. However, the salvage on Chinese coastal vessels is want of basis and conditions for the application of SCOPIC Clause, so the advantages of SCOPIC Clause cannot be used in Chinese coastal vessel salvage. Having introduced the history of SCOPIC Clause and explained the specific stipulation of SCOPIC Clause, the writer highlights the essence and conditions for the application of SCOPIC Clause. Then the writer analyzes and makes comment on the relevant legal issues arising out of incorporation of SCOPIC Clause in Chinese coastal vessel salvage under the Chinese law. At last, the writer gives some useful advice to salvors and shipowners involved in Chinese coastal vessel salvage and SCOPIC Clause.
