In China,Overseas Chinese Farm is the most significant organization that collectively settled the returned Vietnamese Chinese refugees. On the basis of the field work and historical documents, taking the returned Vietnamese Chinese refugees settled in XiaoXueLing Overseas Chinese Farm as a case, this article studies the course of their cultural adaptation in the past 30 years. The author points out that 30 years ago the returned Vietnamese Chinese refugees rebuilt their new home in XiaoXueLing where was an alien land instead of hometown for them, paradoxically, now the new home for them is both the alien land and familiar hometown. Two main factors including excessively special aid offered by the government and the cultural difference profoundly impacted the course of their cultural adaptation and relocalization. This paper also concentrates on issues including how they rebuilt their new home, accommodated the new local culture, reconstructed the relationship with the local fellow and their relatives abroad, and what their response was when they encountered the economic reform, under the influence of two main factors above. Finally, this thesis tries to suggest that under the interaction of special migration history, excessively special aid and realistic interests, the returned Vietnamese Chinese have constructed their special identity that they insist on refugees status, which slows down their pace of integrating into the local society.Currently, the predicament in the Overseas Chinese Farm should be partly ascribed to the persistence of the returned Vietnamese Chinese's special identity.
