In the Song Dynasty, Sili Canjun was professional judicial officer of the province officials. They mainly charged the first trial of criminal cases in the province and managed the prison inmates in Siliyuan (a kind of courts and prisons in Song Dynasty ). This position's set up and its function effectively worked, was a big progress of the judicial system in the Song Dynasty. It initially appeared in the early Northern Song Dynasty, and was a continuous local official position in the Song Dynasty. Basically, each province had one officer, and he was one Canjun of Liucao. The Song Dynasty's rulers reformed and improved it continuously, and established a relatively perfect elective system of Sili Canjun.
