| Public diplomacy is the diplomatic form which a state government implements for the foreign people.Its activity methods contain cultural communication programs, international broadcasting and the Internet with the main expressions of information and languages.With the deep development of globalization,each state,especially the United States,has attached ever-increasing importance to the public diplomacy.The implementation of American public diplomacy after the war not only has played a pivotal role in winning the support,the understanding of American foreign policy as well as the output values of democracy,but also has become an important strategy to push cultural hegemony.The thesis consists of three parts.The chapter one is on an overview of American public diplomacy.First of all,it casts back the development of the term,and defines the definition of public diplomacy that a state government influences the foreign people,creates a favorable international environment,builds a national image and establishes a system of diplomatic with aim to service for the maintcnance and rcalization of national interests through in(?)ormation dissemination activities and cultural-educational communication.Then,it introduces the objectives and contents of American public diplomacy.One objective is to make an all-round and oversea promotion to win the support and understanding from the foreign people and foreign governments,the other is to publicize the American social cultures and values to foreign people to achieve the task of "exporting democracy".The chapter two is about the evolution and characteristics of American public diplomacy.It first sorts out the development of American public diplomacy during the three periods:the Cold War,the post-Cold War era and the "9.11" incident.Then,it discusses the characteristics the public diplomacy possesses after the war,that is to export American democracy,to improve the American image and to encourage the participation of non-governmental organizations.The chapter three is about the impact of American public diplomacy on cultural hegemony strategy.It first reviews the postwar development of American cultural hegemony during the Cold War and post-Cold War era.Through the cultural hegemony strategy,the United States attempted to curb the development of developing countries and create a favorable external environment for American political,economic and other interests to maintain the inequality of the world's political and economic order.Then,it analyzes the impact of American public diplomacy on cultural hegemony strategy.It is mainly manifested by richening "hegemony stability" theory and strengthening the "soft power" theory.Finally,it analyzes the impact of postwar American public diplomacy on the practice of cultural hegemony strategy.The implementation of public diplomacy has laid a solid material foundation for the cultural hegemony strategy,provides a way to export democracy for the United States,and recruits talented men. |
