In the traditional sense of sources of international law, resolutions of international organizations cannot be included. However, the number of international organizations has gradually increased in today's world, and their role in the international community has also become increasingly prominent and important. Therefore, the various resolutions adopted by international organizations and their legal effects have naturally caught more and more attention of scholars. Hence this thesis is trying to analyze the important issue mentioned above in a general sense. The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first chapter deals with the reason of topic selection, the status quo of the research, the methodology of this thesis, and the innovations and difficulties during the research as well. Chapter II deals with one fundamental issue of the study of international law,i.e. the sources of international law. This chapter starts with the basic concept in order to fully explain the basis of the various kinds of sources and how they obtain their legal effects. Then two kinds of sources- treaties and resolutions of international organizations are discussed respectively, and a comparison is made so as to provide a clear analysis of the differences between them and their legal effects. Based on Chapter II, several international organizations and many of their main resolutions are discussed separately in Chapter III. These international organizations include United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and World Health Organization. Chapter IV deals with case studies. Several cases and advisory opinions are selected to be studied in order to illustrate the legal effects of resolutions or recommendations adopted by UN General Assembly and Security Council. The final chapter, Chapter V is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
